The Cuida-Me-Te Project, promoted by the Irene Rolo Foundation, reports a very positive assessment of the intervention carried out between April 2025 and June 2026, having already supported 43 formal and informal caregivers from the municipality of Tavira.

Aiming to promote the mental health, well-being and quality of life of those who care for older people, people with disabilities or individuals in situations of dependency, the project adopts an integrated approach combining psychological support, health literacy, contact with nature, artistic expression and physical activity.

By the end of June, four intervention groups had been completed, while two additional groups were still under way. During this period, the project delivered 26 health literacy workshops, 41 group EcoRia Therapy sessions, 147 individual sessions, 32 therapeutic walks, 66 hours of artistic workshops and six sports activities, providing participants with opportunities for learning, self-care and the strengthening of support networks.

The results of the Cuida-Me-Te Project show a positive impact on participants’ mental health and psychological well-being. The assessment carried out indicates favourable progress, reflected in a reduction in the Global Severity Index (GSI) among 22 caregivers, an indicator associated with decreased psychological distress.

Although the results are still preliminary, they reinforce the relevance of an intervention focused on self-care, stress management, the sharing of experiences and the creation of support networks among caregivers.

The project currently involves the collaboration of nine local institutions and organisations, namely Associação Âncora, Associação O Pontão, Centro Social e Paroquial de Santa Maria, Associação em Contacto, Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Tavira, Agrupamento de Escolas D. Manuel I, Junta de Freguesia de Cabanas de Tavira and the Irene Rolo Foundation. The company AFM – All Finance Matters, Unipessoal, Lda. has also been involved.

This collaboration highlights the growing mobilisation of the community and the importance of networking in the development of innovative and sustainable responses aimed at those who provide care.

Registration Remains Open

The Cuida-Me-Te Project continues to accept registrations from formal and informal caregivers who live or work in the municipality of Tavira.

Those who provide daily care to older people in situations of dependency or to people with disabilities may join one of the upcoming intervention groups free of charge and benefit from a structured programme promoting mental health, well-being, empowerment, the sharing of experiences and the development of self-care strategies.

Interested individuals can obtain further information or register through the Project Office of the Irene Rolo Foundation by calling 964 990 972.

The Cuida-Me-Te Project aims to reach 100 formal and informal caregivers by March 2028. It is promoted by the Irene Rolo Foundation, has the Municipality of Tavira as its Social Investor and is co-funded by Algarve 2030, Portugal 2030 and the European Union under the Partnerships for Social Innovation programme.
